Music Kaleidoscope – Sharing Chamber Orchestra Concert 2025

I am glad to continue working with the Sharing Chamber Orchestra. They will present their annual concerts, titled “Music Kaleidoscope,” on October 18, 2025, at Chiahu Performance Hall, Beigang Cultural Center (Beigang, Yunlin), and on October 19, 2025, at Yunlin Performance Hall (Douliou, Yunlin). Both concerts will begin at 2:30pm.  

My latest piece, Romance for Chamber Ensemble, will premiere at these concerts, along with five commissioned arrangements, including “The Sound of Music,” “Edelweiss,” and “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” from Richard Rodgers’s The Sound of Music, “Strophenlied des Escamillo” from Georges Bizet’s Carmen, and “Memory” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats.

Ma Ma Land – Sharing Chamber Orchestra Concert

It is always my pleasure to work with Sharing Chamber Orchestra again. This time, the theme of the concert is Mother’s Day, including seven of my arrangements requested by the orchestra. The pieces include “My Precious Baby” by Ming-Chang Chen, “The Pink Panther” by Henry Mancini, “Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen” from Die Zauberflöte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz by Harold Arlen, “Als die alte Mutter” from Gypsy Songs, Op. 55 No. 4 by Antonín Dvořák, “I Wanna Say Thank You” by Cavin Lee, and “Dedication” by Xiao-Liang Weng. While arranging these pieces, I was often deeply moved by the music, as if I were missing my mom dearly.

The Sharing Chamber Orchestra will hold their concert, titled “Ma Ma Land,” at Yun Tay Performance Hall, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, at 2:30pm on May 3, 2025. If you are available, please come and support Sharing Chamber Orchestra. Thank you!

Flutes and Horns – Journey to a Joyful Life

I am glad to accept the commission from Chiasong Ensemble to arrange five musical pieces for their concert. The selected pieces are “I Have a Dream,” “Dancing Queen,” and “Mamma Mia” from Mamma Mia!, the theme song from New York, New York, and “Wish Under the Meteor” from Snow Wolf Lake.

This concert, titled “Flutes and Horns – Journey to a Joyful Life,” is specially designed for flute and horn players from Chiasong Ensemble, featuring guest singers and percussionists. It will take place at the Chiayi City Concert Hall (Chiayi, Taiwan) at 2:30 PM on December 1, 2024.

This is my first time collaborating with them, and I sincerely hope the concert will be a success. If you have free time and in the Chiayi area, please come to the concert for supporting Chiasong Ensemble. Thank you! Tickets are available on the Era Ticket System.

New Asian Music: The Woven Sound & Brentwood Christian School Bears Choir

My Three Sketches for piano four hands will be performed again this weekend at 2 pm on October 26. I would like to thank The Woven Sounds (Joyce Wan-Hsuan Wu and Yu-Hsuan Liao) for performing this piece in the concert titled “New Asian Music: The Woven Sound & Brentwood Christian School Bears Choir.” I still remember this piece was premiered in the same hall—the Recital Hall of Austin Community College Highland Campus—in 2022, after the suddenly loss of our dear pianist and good friend Tzu-Feng Liu. This piece is dedicated to her, and I believe The Woven Sounds will perform it in her memory.

Music Painting – Sharing Chamber Orchestra Concert 2024

I am glad to receive a commission from Sharing Chamber Orchestra again to arrange six pieces for their annual concert this year. These six pieces are “Promenade and Tuileries” and “The Great Gate of Kiev” for chamber ensemble from Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Tostil’s Songo for medium voice and chamber ensemble, “Amor” for high Voice and chamber ensemble from R. Strauss’s Sechs Lieder, Op. 68 No. 5, “Stranger in Paradise” for two voices and chamber ensemble from Borodin; Wright; Forres’s musical Kismet, and “Lippen Schweigen” for two voices and chamber ensemble from Lehár’s Die Lustige Witwe.

Their annual concert titled “Music Painting – Sharing Chamber Orchestra Concert” will take place in two locations in Yunlin, Taiwan as usual. The first one will be at 2:30pm on October 26 at Chiahu Performance Hall, Beigang Cultural Center (Beigang, Yunlin). The second one will be at 2:30pm on October 27 at Yunlin Performance Hall (Douliou, Yunlin). They also invite the guest singers, Chia-Ying Chan (soprano) and Lorenzo Chun-Han Chang (baritone), to perform with them for the art songs. Hsin-Ying Chen Vocal Recital 2024

It is my pleasure to know that my On the Island for High Voice and Piano will receive its Taiwan premiere on July 7 at National Recital Hall (Taipei, Taiwan). This works includes 10 songs based on Chen Li’s poem “On the Island” from The Cat at the Mirror. It will be performed by Soprano Hsin-Ying Chen and pianist Chun-Hua Weng in their recital. I am planning to go back to Taiwan for attending this concert as well.

This song cycle was composed for my graduation recital at the Eastman School of Music. The recording of the world premiere performance can be listened in poet Chen Li’s website, and the link is below –

Impression･Image – Sharing Chamber Orchestra Concert

I am glad to work with Sharing Chamber Orchestra again this year. At 2:30pm on May 18, 2024, at Yun Tay Performance Hall of National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Sharing Chamber Orchestra will present “Impression･Image” concert. This concert mainly focuses on the movie soundtrack with new chamber orchestra arrangements, and includes five of my commissioned arranging works from them. There are “I Dreamed a Dream” and “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables” from Les Misérables, “The Music of the Night” from The Phantom of the Opera, “A Whole New World” from Aladdin, and the theme song from Your Name Engraved Herein. Magic Flute – Sharing Chamber Orchestra Concert 2023

It is my pleasure to accept the commission from Sharing Chamber Orchestra again this year for arranging Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (Magic Flute), K, 620. Eight pieces from Die Zauberflöte was selected to be included in their annual concerts, along with National Chung Cheng University anniversary celebration concert. These sections are “Overture”, “Der Vogelfänger bin ich ja”, “Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön”, “Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen”, “Ach, ich fühl’s, es ist verschwunden”, “Ein Mädchen oder Weibchenchen”, “Papagena, Papageno”, and “Die Strahlen der Sonne vertreiben die Nacht”. Premiere performance will be at 2:30pm on October 21 at Performance Hall of Activity Center at the National Chung Cheng University (Minxiong, Chiayi). Second performance will be at 2:30pm on October 22 at Yunlin Performance Hall (Douliou, Yunlin). Third and final performance will be at 2:30pm on October 28 at Chiahu Performance Hall (Beigang, Yunlin). National Chung Cheng University anniversary celebration concert is free admission; for concerts at Douliou and Beigang, it can purchase tickets in the following link below. 2023 International Conference on Musical Arts and Pedagogy

I am glad to be invited as keynote speaker in 2023 International Conference on Musical Arts and Pedagogy held by National Pingtung University (NPTU). This conference takes place in the music department of National Pingtung University Pingshih Campus on April 25-27. On April 26 9am at the recital hall, as keynote speaker, I will talk about my art songs titled “The Connection of Chen Li’s Poems and My Art Songs.” On April 27 7:30pm at the concert hall, as composer, my three pieces, “A Pair of Wings” from The Flight Log for mixed chorus and piano, Three Sketches for piano four hands, Spring Breeze for violin and piano will be performed in the International Exchange Joint Concert. Thank NPTU and HoD Dr. Yeh for giving me this opportunity and hosting me in this conference period. It will be a wonderful time sharing my music, meeting with my old friends, and work with fantastic musicians and talented music students.

Meng-Yun Weng Saxophone Recital

My Cave Railroad for solo alto saxophone will be performed by saxophonist Meng-Yun Weng at Bryan Recital Hall of Bowling Green State University (Bowling Green, OH, USA) at 8pm on April 11, 2023. Still remember I have attended the world premiere performance by saxophonist Po-Fang Chang at the same recital hall and location. Glad to know this piece coming back to there again after many years.
